thanks for the taste of home, David. i was born in OK but got to TX as soon as i could. lived all over the world as an AF wife in the 60s and 70s and came back to TX. now expat in Louisiana, which we love, but TX will always be home. ;)

That's great, Becky. If you're a Texan at heart, you just can't help loving the state with an irrational (or supra-rational) passion. I imagine Brazilians and Italians feel the same.

David, being a positive thinking kind of guy, you neglected the less glamorous but perhaps more descriptive town names ... like:

Levelland, Texas
Plainview, Texas
Brownfield, Texas
Littlefield, Texas
Shallowater, Texas

While you're at it, let's all sing the state song together, which can be described with many adjectives not synonymous with humble:

Texas, Our Texas! all hail the mighty State!
Texas, Our Texas! so wonderful so great!
Boldest and grandest, withstanding ev'ry test
O Empire wide and glorious, you stand supremely blest.
(chorus)

Texas, O Texas! your freeborn single star,
Sends out its radiance to nations near and far,
Emblem of Freedom! it set our hearts aglow,
With thoughts of San Jacinto and glorious Alamo.
(chorus)

Texas, dear Texas! from tyrant grip now free,
Shines forth in splendor, your star of destiny!
Mother of heroes, we come your children true,
Proclaiming our allegiance, our faith, our love for you.

Chorus

God bless you Texas! And keep you brave and strong,
That you may grow in power and worth, throughout the ages long.
God bless you Texas! And keep you brave and strong,
That you may grow in power and worth, throughout the ages long.

wow, Thomas! i'm impressed that you could come up with the 2nd and 3rd verses of the state song. i only remember the 1st verse and chorus. i am old enough to remember when it said 'LARGEST and grandest!' we were disappointed to have to change that in '59. ;)

Thomas, that's a terrifying state song. Oh my.

What a great post. I do love Texas. Jeff told me that you were in the state... I'm sorry we missed you. We continue to lift you and PJ (AM) in prayer.

Thank you, Holly. So kind of you. We really do want to see you guys at some point. For sure I'll get to see you in October, so we'll plan for that.
